Field Hockey Uses A Big Second Half to Bury the Bison

Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio – Anna Baeth won her head coaching debut as she guided the Oberlin College field hockey team to a 7-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeowomen, who controlled the run of play throughout the contest, led just 3-2 at the break, but pulled away by depositing four second-half goals.

Oberlin's scoring was very diverse as six different players found the back of the cage in the game. Karin Yoshida led the way with two finishes.  Rachel Zuckerman did not score, but had three assists.

Oberlin out-shot Bethany 27-2 and forced 20 penalty corners compared to just five for the Bison.

Yoshida netted the game's first goal at the 16:22 mark with an assist from Zuckerman. Senior Eloise Reid cashed one in just five minutes later, finishing off a beautiful feed from Lindani Johnson.

Jodi Helsel added Oberlin's final goal of the first half with the help of Zuckerman's feed. However, Bethany scored with no time left on the clock, finishing off a penalty corner to make it 3-2 at intermission.

Conversely, the second half belonged to the Yeowomen completely.  Rookie Taylor Swift started the frame by scoring her first collegiate goal just moments into the session off a corner.

Yoshida would add her second score, while Johnson and Claire Yeske also got into the act.

The Yeowomen return to action in one week when they travel to Denison for an 11 a.m. NCAC showdown.
