Mequon, WI – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team ran its record to 8-0 as they took down the Falcons of Concordia-Wisconsin University by the score of 12-8 on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeowomen were paced offensively by
Kate Hanick and
Alice Zicht as they each had three goals in the game. Hanick, who now has a team-high 28 goals, also scooped up a game-high four ground balls.
Molly Bloom, who scored once, matched
Lori Sako with a team-high five draw controls.
The game was tightly contested in the early going until a run of six straight Oberlin goals to end the first and start the second half provided some breathing room. The Yeowomen trailed 5-4 with 5:21 left in the opening half, but back-to-back Hanick deposits followed by another finish from Zicht with an assist coming from
Ilyssa Meyer made it a 7-5 Oberlin advantage at the half.
Meyer started the second session with her second score of the game, while Zicht and rookie
Bronwen Schumacher would add two more to make it a 10-5 game.
The Falcons tried to crawl back into it but each of their scores were answered by Oberlin.
Sarah Andrews, who had a nice all-around game with three ground balls, two caused turnovers, one draw control and an assist, added one of the Oberlin rebuttal goals.
Madeleine O'Meara played all 60 minutes in the cage and made six saves.
The Yeowomen controlled the game throughout, evident by a 35-21 shot advantage and 17-8 edge in ground balls. Oberlin was also a perfect 11-of-11 on clear attempts and won 17 of the game's 25 draw controls.
Oberlin returns back to the state of Ohio to begin conference play on Wednesday, April 4 at Denison University. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
