Oberlin, Ohio- The Oberlin College women's basketball team got its sixth win of the season when the Yeowomen defeated visiting Allegheny 58-47 on Saturday afternoon after shooting just under .500 from the field.
Allegheny started the game fast and jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. The Yeowomen chipped away at the deficit and tied the game at 9-9 13 minutes into the first half.
Sophomore
Christina Marquette was essential to Oberlin's 9-2 run, as she scored the Yeowomen's first eight points of the game. Marquette went onto lead Oberlin with 20 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and four assists.
After tying the game in the first half, Oberlin built a lead and never looked back, finishing out the first 20 minutes of play up 13 points over the Gators.
The Yeowomen continued to play well, leading Allegheny by as many as 19 points in the second half. First-year
Caroline Hamilton played a big role in Oberlin's dominance coming off the bench and knocking down five of five three point shots throughout the game. Hamilton was able to score 15 points in 19 minutes of play.
Junior
Allison Gannon contributed eight points and eight rebounds in the win.
Allegheny and Oberlin both had 20 points in the paint on the afternoon, while the Gators' 21 points off of turnovers and 12 second chance points led the Yeowomen's 12 points off of turnovers and three second chance points. Although Oberlin trailed in those areas, they led Allegheny with 17 bench points to the Gator's zero.
The Yeowomen move to 6-4 on the season and 2-1 in the conference and will look to get a win over visiting Olivet on December 10 at 6 p.m.
