Box Score

Gambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College football team fell behind 20-0 and could not recover as they lost to the Kenyon College Lords, 30-13, on Saturday afternoon at McBride Field.

The loss marks just the second team the Yeomen have fallen to the Lords in the last seven meetings and avenges a 42-0 blanking the Yeomen dealt Kenyon a season ago.

Senior Dan Weintraub was one of the few bright spots for the Yeomen as he finished with six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. Moses Richardson added 72 yards on the ground and a TD.

Making his fourth straight start, freshman quarterback Lucas Poggiali was 15-of-25 for 131 yards and one touchdown. He was also picked off twice.

The Lords got on the board late in the first quarter. Following a Yeomen fumble deep in their own territory, Kenyon went right for the endzone on the very next play as quarterback Dan Shannon threw his first of three TDs of the game to Greg McIntosh from 21 yards out.

In the second quarter Shannon would lead the Lords on a 20-play, 76-yard drive that took 7:23 off of the clock. The final play of the run was a 14-yard TD toss to Tyler Smith that gave the Lords a 13-0 lead at the half.

Kenyon would add another touchdown on its first possession of the third quarter to put the Yeomen in a big hole. However, OC would finally crack through on the ensuing possession as Poggiali marched the team 92 yards on 10 plays before connecting with Weintraub on 21-yard scoring strike to make it a 20-7 game with 5:05 left in the third quarter.

The Yeomen defense would then come up big as Zach Kisley intercepted Shannon just four plays later and returned it 33 yards down to the Lords' 14. From there Richardson would take it in from four yards out to get OC within 20-13 with just over 16 minutes left in the game.

Unfortunately, Kenyon controlled the fourth quarter by adding 10 more points to prevent any threat of an Oberlin comeback. The Yeomen still fought till the end – trailing 30-13 - Poggiali drove the team down into the redzone with two minutes left, but he was picked off in the endzone to effectively end the game.

Oberlin had possession of the ball for just 22:47 and ran just 58 plays compared the Lords' 76. Third down efficiency continued to be a problem as well as OC moved the chains just one time on 11 third-down plays.

Dane Stritt led the Yeomen defense with 13 tackles, while Matt Misorski added 11 stops of his own. Clay Eaton continued his sack parade as he wrapped up Shannon two times and now has 9.5 sacks on the year.

Oberlin will look to get back on track when it returns home to host Denison next Saturday at 1 p.m.
