Yeowomen Fall to Denison After Second Half Push

Oberlin, Ohio- The Oberlin College women's field hockey team lost a conference matchup on a rainy Friday afternoon to visiting Denison 6-3 after staying with the Big Red through the first half.

The Yeowomen got on the board first when freshman Taylor Swift found junior Karin Yoshida three minutes into the contest on a cross from the right side of the field. Yoshida scored from the left, bringing her total to nine goals on the year.

Denison responded quickly with two goals to take the lead six minutes into the game.

Two minutes later, Oberlin tied the game at 2-2 when sophomore Rachel Zuckerman found the back of the net for the second time this season. Yoshida assisted on the play.

The Big Red took the lead back from Oberlin when it put in a goal 90 seconds later, making the score 3-2 after 10 minutes of play.

Denison held its lead until the 28th minute when junior Lindani Johnson scored her second goal of the year.

The two teams when into halftime tied at 3-3.

Oberlin was not able to score for the remainder of the game, while Denison put in three goals to ultimately finish with a 6-3 victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Carmen Azevedo finished with seven saves in the cage.

Denison led in shots with 15 to the Yeowomen's nine, and the Big Red's nine penalty corners edged out Oberlin's eight.

The Yeowomen continue their season when the travel to Earlham on October 12 for a 4:30 p.m. matchup. In its previous game against the Quakers earlier this season, Oberlin won 5-2.
