Gambier, Ohio – Sophomore goalie
Carmen Azevedo made a career-high 18 saves as the Oberlin College field hockey team outlasted the Ladies of Kenyon, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Second-year standout
Jodi Helsel netted the game's lone goal with just under seven minutes left to play after taking a long pass from
Karin Yoshida which led to the break-away score. It was Helsel's third goal of the season.
Despite the outcome, the Ladies of Kenyon controlled run of play throughout the contest as they out-shot Oberlin 37-6 and triggered 29 penalty corners compared to Oberlin's one.
However, Azevedo's work between the pipes was simply sensational on this day as she kept off the Ladies off of the board.
Kiran Puri started the match and played the first 11 minutes in the cage and made one save before departing the game.
With the win Oberlin improved to 4-9 overall and 3-9 in the NCAC. It was Oberlin's first victory against the Ladies of Kenyon since September 20, 2006 when they were 2-1 victors.
The Yeowomen will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday afternoon when they welcome the Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan to town for a 4:30 p.m. conference clash.
