Yeo Notes: Game 5: Oberlin at Kenyon

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College football team travels to Kenyon College on Saturday October 6 looking for its first conference victory and its third consecutive win against the Lords.

Series Information …
Oberlin leads the all-time series against the Lords 40-36-6… The first meeting between the two schools was in 1892, Oberlin's first undefeated season… In the contest 120 years ago the Yeomen blanked Kenyon 38-0… In 2011, Oberlin defeated Kenyon 42-0 in the opening week of the season… In last year's win, Josh Mandel threw for 322 yards on 26 completions and four touchdowns… Robin Witjes finished with eights receptions for 83 yards and a score, while Moses Richardson had 69 yards on the ground and found the end zone twice... The Yeomen defense held Kenyon to just 107 yards of total offense for the game … It was Oberlin's first shutout victory since 1982.
 
Scouting the Lords …
Kenyon is coming into the week off of a loss to Washington University (St. Louis)… The Lords' offense is led by senior running back Brett Williams who has racked up 436 yards rushing and four touchdowns in 2012… Williams comes into week six averaging 5.2 yards a carry and 109 yards rushing per game… Senior quarterback Dan Shannon has thrown for 392 yards and four touchdowns on the year… Junior linebacker Kolin Sullivan who has 43 tackles and 10.5 tackles-for-loss in the first four games leads the Kenyon defense.
 
Elusive on Defense …
Senior defensive back David Kalgren continues to be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and wide receivers after picking off his fourth ball of the season last week against Allegheny… Kalgren's four interceptions on the season rank him tied for first in the NCAC and tied for sixth in the country averaging one interception a game… Kalgren's ability to find the end zone is what makes him dangerous, totaling 133 return yards and two touchdowns off of interceptions.
 
Eaton at the Top of the List …
Senior defensive lineman Clay Eaton finished last week's game against Allegheny with one sack, marking his ninth consecutive game with a sack and increasing his season total to 7.5…  Eaton's 1.88 sacks per game average ranks him first in the conference and first in the country for the second week in a row… Going into the fifth game of the season, Eaton is over halfway to breaking the single-season sack record of 13.5.
 
Turnover Specialists …
The Yeomen defense leads the NCAC in turnovers with 15, while the team ranks in the top-25 in the nation and fourth in the conference in turnover margin at plus 1.5 … The Yeomen defenders have intercepted nine passes and recovered six fumbles through four games in the season, averaging 3.75 takeaways a game.
 
Yeomen on a Roll …
In their last six meetings, Oberlin is 5-1 against Kenyon… During the six-year stretch the Yeomen offense has averaged just under 39 points a game against the Lords.
