Kiran Puri made two key saves during the shootout.
Box Score

Richmond, IN - Kiran Puri turned away Earlham's final two attempts in the penalty stroke shootout to give the Oberlin College field hockey team a 2-1 (4-3) win over Earlham College on Friday.

After 70 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods, the Yeowomen and Quakers were still tied at 1-1 to force extra strokes. Each team had five chances to go one-on-one vs. the opposing goalie and luckily Oberlin was able to cash in four of their tries compared to Earlham's three.

Earlham made their first stroke attempt, but missed the second. Finishes by Jodi Helsel and Lindani Johnson gave the Yeowomen a 2-1 cushion, before Earlham would even the score at 2-2. Rookie Taylor Swift's flick later tied the shootout at three and then Puri would deny the next Earlham attempt before Rachel Zuckerman would tally Oberlin's fourth point. With the game on the line, Puri would then save Bailey Heinzen's game-tying effort to send the Yeowomen home as winners.

With the win Oberlin snapped a five-game skid and improved their record to 3-7 overall and 2-7 in the NCAC.

Swift gave the Yeowomen a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, finishing off a penalty corner, but the Quakers would eventually even the match late in the second half to force overtime. The Yeowomen did not register a single shot in the second half, but had multiple chances to win it in overtime as seven of their 11 shots in the game came during the two extra frames.

Puri was credited with three saves during the run of play, while her counterpart Emma Treece made seven stops.

The Yeowomen won't have much time to celebrate as they go right back to work tomorrow afternoon against NCAC-leading DePauw.
