Oberlin, Ohio – Despite a large discrepancy in shots, the Oberlin College field hockey team was able to hang right with the Ladies of Kenyon College for all 70 minutes, but in the end they fell short by a 3-1 score on Wednesday afternoon.

Kenyon fired off 17 first-half shots, but led just 1-0 at the break. The Yeowomen would quickly get to even to start the second period as rookie Jodi Helsel finished off a picture perfect pass from Emily Whitaker to the tie the game at one. It was Helsel's fourth score of the season, which ties Karin Yoshida for the team lead.

Unfortunately, the Oberlim momentum was extremely short-lived as the Ladies would answer right back just 20 seconds later to secure a 2-1 lead at the 37:48 mark.

Kenyon would add another goal in the 45th minute to cap the scoring for the game.

Goalie Kiran Puri did an outstanding job in the cage as she kept Oberlin in the contest throughout by making a season-high 16 saves. Karin Yoshida also added a defensive save in the game.

Helsel attempted all three of Oberlin's shots on the day. The Lords ripped off 33 attempts in the game and finished with a 13-3 edge in penalty corners.

Oberlin returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Wittenberg University at 2 p.m.
