Robin Witjes accounted for 160 total yards on Saturday
Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College football team didn't disappoint a large Homecoming crowd as it defeated the visiting Hiram College Terriers 27-7 on Saturday afternoon at Savage Stadium.

With starting quarterback Josh Mandel unavailable, the Yeomen had to get creative on offensive as they used both Robin Witjes and Joe Cook at quarterback. Witjes, who got the starting nod, was a jack-of-all-trades as he accounted for 160 total yards and two touchdowns. The Howell, Michigan, native threw for 27 yards and a score, ran for 64 yards on seven carries, and also caught three passes for 69 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown. Not to mention he also made an extra point.

On the game's opening drive, Witjes wasted no time in leading the Yeomen right down the field as on his very first play at quarterback he took the shotgun snap and rushed for 38 yards. Two plays later he connected with Drew Mixter on a 10-yard scoring strike to give the Yeomen a 7-0 lead just 1:59 into the game.

After a 4-play scoring drive on their first possession, the Yeomen needed just six plays to find paydirt on their ensuing drive. Moses Richardson rushed for 40 of his career-high 94 yards on the drive and ended it with a 4-yard TD scamper.

Following a 3-and-out by Hiram, Oberlin continued to pour it on in the first quarter as Offensive Coordinator Alan Estep went into his bag of tricks and called a reverse pass that had wide receiver Cory Kidd throw back to Witjes - who started the play at quarterback - along the far sideline for an easy 56-yard touchdown.

Leading 20-0 after one, the Yeomen would make it four straight possessions with a touchdown as rookie Justin Williams would cap off a 10-play, 80-yard drive early in the second quarter with an 11-yard TD run. The touchdown would cap Oberlin's scoring for the day.

The Terriers moved the ball throughout the game as they finished with 353 total yards compared to Oberlin's 392. However, most of their work was done in-between the 20's as they only made two trips to red zone all game long.

Hiram would finally break through with 8:36 left in the game when quarterback Brandon Hanna ripped off a 24-yard touchdown run. Following the score, the Terriers' defense came up big with an interception, but the Oberlin defense responded by sealing the game for good when Zachary Kisley picked off Hanna on the Hiram 1-yard line with just 3:15 left to play.

The Yeomen rushed for a season-high 258 yards on a season-high 43 attempts.

Derrick Dennis led the defense with a career-high 13 tackles, while sophomore Zachary Kisley added nine stops and his second interception of the season.

Oberlin will take to the road for the first time all season next week when it travles to Wittenberg University for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
