Series Information ...

Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Terriers 24-28 … Saturday marks the 53rd meeting between the two foes with their first meeting coming all the way back in 1895 – as the Yeomen routed the Terriers won 52-0 … Last season, the Yeomen defeated the Terriers 42-21 to move to 2-1 on the 2010 season … In that meeting, the Yeomen set a school record by amassing 622 total yards of offense (401 coming in the air) … The Yeomen simply dominated on the day, and were able to answer any Hiram touchdown with a score of their own … The Yeomen were led defensively by David Kalgren who had seven total tackles and an interception, while Clay Eaton added two tackles for loss.

Scouting the Terriers…

Coming off a thrilling win against NCAC opponent Kenyon College, the Terriers bring a little momentum into Oberlin on Saturday… Sophomore quarterback Brandon Hanna has been their catalyst on offense, leading the team in passing and rushing yards (483 yard passing and 283 yards on the ground)… Duel threat of receivers (sophomore Richard Simpson and freshman Jeff Schofield) combine to average over 100 yards per game… The Terriers return all three starting linebackers from last year. All three are in the top four on the team in tackles, and led by 2010 All-NCAC honorable mention Oliver Dickerhoof. Dickerhoof led the NCAC in tackles last year with 112, and leads the 2011 Terriers with 29.

Keeping Pace…

The 2010 season was the first time since 1989 that the Yeomen had a 2-1 record through the first three games... Entering Saturday with a 1-1 record, Oberlin has a good chance to make it 2 years in a row…They will need a balanced attack to keep the Terriers linebackers in check, and not let them get too comfortable out on the field.

Movin' On Up…

After last week's performance, linebacker Matt Misorski has climbed to 8th in the NCAC with tackles per game… The junior from Beaver, Pennsylvania had an impressive day, recording 14 total tackles, 12 of which were solo… He also added a tackle for a loss. Look for him to lead the Yeomen defense and keep duel threat quarterback Brandon Hanna in check.

Struggles between the tackles…

The Yeomen running attack has gotten off to a slow start in the 2011 campaign, only averaging 79 yards per game … With two experienced backs spearheading their rushing attack (Mixter and Richardson) it is only a matter of time before they break out … Last year the Yeomen ground game had the same slow start coming into the Hiram game. Drew Mixter had a career high 108 rushing yards on only 15 carries.

Air it Out…
The Yeomen passing game has been a bright spot so far during the 2011 season. They are second in the conference in passing offense, with a big thanks to their all around experience… They are averaging a stellar 352.5 yards per game through the air, behind quaterback Josh Mandel, with eight different receivers catching a pass.

Tough in the Trenche
s...
The Yeomen defense has only allowed an average of 175.5 yards per game (92.5 passing and 82 rushing), and has kept opposing offenses in check so far this year… Hiram has a young core of offensive playmakers and will have a very tough matchup this week against the experienced defense of the Yeomen.
