Richmond, Indiana- The Oberlin College field hockey team topped the Quakers of Earlham College Saturday afternoon. Head coach Deb Ranieri talked to her team before the game and devised a simple game plan that included not giving up on scoring oppurtunities, and playing until the ball was cleared. The Yeowomen executed this gameplan, and were able to come out on top, 2-1.

The Yeowomen got things started in the first half when senior Emily Whitaker put a shot in the back of the cage off an assist by freshman Jodi Helsel. It was the only score of the half, and the Yeowomen took the lead into the second period.

Earlham answered with a goal of their own after halftime, but with about 10 minutes left in the game, junior midfielder Eloise Reid  scored her first goal of the season, and it proved to be a game winner. After the goal, the Yeowomen defense led by Laura Li and goal keeper Kiran Puri stifled the Quakers the rest of the way.

Oberlin had the slight advantage in shots at 18-15, and Puri was impressive in goal with 14 saves. The penalty corners for the match were even at 10-10.

The Yeowomen return to action tomorrow afternoon when they play host to Wittenberg at 2 p.m.
