Oberlin, Ohio – It was another great day for the Oberlin College women's track and field as the Yeowomen placed second at the NCAC Outdoor Championships with 143 points.
Senior
Joanna Johnson was named as the NCAC Outdoor Distance Runner of the Year as she followed yesterday's second-place effort in the 10K, by winning the 5K today with a new school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:09.33. Junior teammate
Christine Moore followed behind in second place at 17:46.60.
Just like the prelims, the Yeowomen trio of
Melissa Elie,
Marissa Clardy and
Amanda Miller were able to claim the top three spots in the 400 meters, totaling 24 points in the process. Elie was first in at 59.08, Clardy followed at 59.51, while Miller was close behind at 1:00.20. The threesome also joined
Sybil Levine in the 4x400-meter relay to win the event in 3:58.34. Levine led off the race and was followed by Miller, Elie and Clardy. Levine also contributed individually by checking in second in the 800 meters, completing the course in 2:19.58.
Furthermore, the OC relay unit of Elie,
Sophia Brancazio,
Jasmine Owens and Miller flew through the 4x100-meter relay in 49.87 to take the top spot in the event.
Rookie
Molly Martorella capped off her fine freshman season by finishing second in the 1,500 meters with a timestamp of 4:50.09.
Adding points in the field events today were
Courtney Konow,
Melissa DeLombaert and Owens. Konow finished sixth in the javelin with a toss of 91-11, while DeLombaert (32-06.25) and Owens (32-03) placed fifth and seventh, respectively in the triple jump.
