Oberlin, Ohio –
After an all-around flat performance in game one that resulted in a 3-0 loss, the Oberlin College baseball team bounced back in a big way as they thumped the visiting Terriers of Hiram 15-0 in game two.

In the nightcap the Yeomen had 10 different players with at least one hit in the game as they finished with a season-high 15. Senior Max Phinney led the way by going 3-for-3 with five RBI's and two runs scored. Sophomore Robin Witjes continued to swing a hot bat as he finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Unlike game one, the Yeomen jumped on the Terriers early by scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings before exploding with a six-spot in the third. Phinney's double down the left line in the first inning plated the first two OC runs. In the third Ben Puterbaugh, Brandon Cantrill (2), Phinney, Eric Knight and Steve DiNanno all had RBI's. Oberlin belted out six hits in the frame.

Oberlin would later add five more runs in the fifth as they pounded out seven hits in the inning. Highlighting the action was freshman Drew Karlin's first-career hit and RBI in what was his first at-bat of the season. Senior pitcher Grady Campion also made the first plate appearance of his career in the sixth, but hit into a fielder's choice.

Knight (2-4), a sophomore from Scottsdale, Arizona, got the win as he worked the front four innings. Karlin, Kevin Swanson and Jake Streich-Kest each worked an inning of relief to help preserve the shutout.

In game one things didn't come as easily for the Yeomen as they had just three hits through five innings. The Terriers' soft-tossing Andy Marsh baffled the Yeomen hitters as he pitched a complete-game six-hit shutout that saw him walk none and strikeout two.

Hiram (9-16, 1-11 NCAC) was able to push a single run across in the fourth and used two hits and a walk to add two more in the fifth. Yeomen starter Brandon Cantrill (2-2) took loss despite fanning five and walking just two through seven innings.

The Yeomen did make things interesting in the bottom of the seventh, but left the bases loaded without pushing a single run across. Back-to-back two-out singles by Phinney and Knight brought the tying run to the plate in the form of Mike McDonald, who loaded the bases by getting hit with a pitch. Pinch hitter Zach Jaspers then hit a sharp grounder that appeared to heading through the hole on the right side, but the Terriers second baseman was able to track it down and retire Jaspers for the game's final out.

The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak the Yeomen had against the Terriers in conference play and could loom large in Oberlin's post-season fate. The Yeomen now rest at 14-16 overall and 5-7 in NCAC play.

Oberlin will go right back to work tomorrow as Allegheny College comes to town for a critical conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
