Crawfordsville, Ind. – The Oberlin College baseball team began NCAC play today at Wabash College and after losing game one 6-2, the Yeomen dropped a heartbreaking 6-5 game-two loss in eight innings.

After tying game two at five in the top of the sixth, the Yeomen would eventually fall victim to David Seibel's walk-off single down the left line that scored the game-winning run.

The Little Giants built up a 5-1 lead through three innings off of Yeomen starter Grady Campion. However, OC responded by scoring three in the third to get within striking distance. Senior Max Phinney got things started with a two-run triple down the right field line and would later score on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, the rest of the Yeomen line-up couldn't keep things going as Brian Van Duyn went on to strike out the side.

Phinney would come through in the clutch once again in the sixth as his single up the middle scored classmate Brandon Cantrill who started the frame with a double.

Campion got through five innings and allowed six hits and five earned runs. He also walked two and struck out four.

Head Coach Adrian Abrahamowicz turned to closer Phil Brua after removing Campion. The senior from Avon, Ohio, worked a perfect sixth and pitched around a two-out triple in the seventh to force the extra frame.

The Yeomen had opportunities to score in the seventh and eighth but came up empty. OC had two runners on and just one out in the seventh, but fly outs by Ben Puterbaugh and Cantrill left the runners stranded. Phinney led off the eighth with a double, but the next three hitters were retired.

In the eighth a one-out walk and hit batter setup the inning for Wabash. Following a fielder's choice, runners were left on first and third before Seibel came through with the big hit.

Phinney finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Ben Kauder also had three hits in the game.

In the lid-lifter the Little Giants used a big fourth inning to get by the Yeomen. Wabash pounded out five hits in the frame to score four runs and break-up what had been a 2-2 game to that point.

Starter Eric Knight (1-3) got touched up for 10 hits and also hit two and walked four in five innings of work as he took the loss.

Wabash jumped on the Yeomen in the first by scoring two runs, but Oberlin would get back to even by plating a pair of their own in the third. Rookies Mike McDonald and Steve DiNanno started the frame with back-to-back hits. Following a hit batter, Kauder would come through with a bases-loaded RBI single to left. The second run would come across when Zach Kisley grounded into a double play.

After the run-producing inning the Yeomen were unable to put anything together as they had just one hit in each of the next three innings, before being shutdown in order in the seventh.

Phinney joined Kauder as those with two hits in the game.

Little Giants starter Andrew Swart went the distance on just 75 pitches as he fanned eight Yeomen hitters to improve to 4-3 on the year.

The Yeomen will travel to Wittenberg tomorrow afternoon for another critical NCAC doubleheader.
