Oberlin, Ohio –
Senior Day was celebrated in style by the Oberlin College baseball team as they swept a critical North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader from Kenyon College on Sunday afternoon by the scores of 5-1 and 8-6.

Senior Phil Brua (2-4) was simply dominant on the mound as he went the distance in game one and picked up the save (5) in the nightcap. The native of nearby Avon, Ohio, had a no-hitter going through 4.1 innings, as the Lords mustered just two hits in the fifth for their only hits of the game. The sidearm specialist struck out five and walked just one on 95 pitches (59 strikes).

After plating one run in the second, the Yeomen exploded with a four-run third. Sophomore Eric Knight got the rally started with a two-run triple to right center. Classmate Robin Witjes would later follow with a two-RBI single center.

Lords ace Tyler Dierke (3-5) took the loss as the Yeomen touched him up for seven hits in three innings. With that being said his defense didn't help his cause as it made three errors behind him, which resulted in just three of his five runs allowed being earned.

In the nightcap senior southpaw Grady Campion (2-2) got the win as he battled his way through 5.1 innings. The Brookline, Massachusetts, native sprinkled nine hits along the way as he allowed five runs (four earned).

Both teams had 10 hits in the game. Seniors Brandon Cantrill and Max Phinney had two hits apiece, while rookie Mattie DeDoes and Witjes also added a pair of hits each.

The Yeomen scored two in the second thanks to Phinney's single down the left field line and DeDoes' single through the right side to score fellow freshman Mike McDonald.

Oberlin (13-15, 4-6 NCAC) would add a single tally in the third, but the Lords responded by tying the game at three in the top of the fourth. Kenyon used a combination of four hits and two Oberlin errors to plate the three runs.

Thankfully the Lords (12-16, 4-8 NCAC) momentum was halted rather quickly as the Yeomen answered by scoring five runs in the home half of the fourth. McDonald and DeDoes got things going with run-producing singles. Witjes followed with a bunt single that turned into a “Little League” triple as Lords' pitcher Alex Kendall airmailed a throw into right field that allowed both McDonald and Dedoes to score on the play. With Witjes left standing on third with just one out, Head Coach Adrian Abrahamowicz called for the squeeze bunt, which was executed to perfection by senior Ben Kauder as he pushed the ball right up the firstbase line to allow Witjes to score with ease and make it an 8-3 Yeomen lead.

The game got a little dicey in the sixth as senior Ryan Mouch came in the pitch for Campion with two runners on. Following a fielder's choice, which was nearly an inning-ending double play, Jack Graham lifted Mouch's 3-2 pitch over the wall in left for a three-run home run.

However, in the seventh the Yeomen turned things over to Brua as he induced three groundball outs to earn his fifth save of the season.

With no official word on the make-up date for the Hiram games that were rained out on Saturday, the Yeomen's next scheduled contest is this Wednesday at home against Baldwin-Wallace College. The Yeomen and Yellow Jackets will play a single nine-inning game starting at 4:30 p.m.
