Oberlin, Ohio – After a lackluster performance in game one that resulted in a 9-0 loss, the Oberlin College baseball team rebounded to win game two by the score of 9-3 against Denison University on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Ryan Mouch (1-0), who has pitched soundly throughout the season, picked up his first-career win as he worked five innings of three-hit ball. He also walked three and struck out three on 77 pitches – 48 of which went for strikes. All three of Denison's runs were charged to him.

Classmate Ben Puterbaugh had a breakout game at the plate as he was 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI's and two runs scored.

Denison used sixth pitchers in the nightcap, but it was starter Davis Holmes (1-2) who took the loss as the Yeomen roughed him up for three runs in his lone inning on the bump. The Yeomen posted the three-spot via Puterbaugh's two-run double to right and Max Phinney's RBI groundout.

The Yeomen (11-13, 2-6 NCAC) grabbed a 7-0 lead in the third as senior Brandon Cantrill followed Puterbaugh's leadoff double down the left line with a towering two-run home run over the trees that rest behind the left field wall of Dill Field. Three batters later rookie Mike McDonald belted another two-run bomb to left center to cap off the four-run inning.

Following a solo shot in the top of the fourth by Denison, the Yeomen responded with a pair in the home half of the frame. Puterbaugh's third two-base hit sent Zach Jaspers across the dish. Cantrill would follow with a single and later scored on a wild pitch to complete the Yeomen scoring.

Two walks in the fifth came back to hurt Mouch as Josh Butler came through for the Big Red with a two-RBI double.

Despite starting and throwing six innings yesterday against Wooster, senior southpaw Grady Campion came in out of the bullpen to work the sixth and seventh to preserve the win.

Game one was a different for the story for the Yeomen as they had just three hits in the contest.

Sophomore Eric Knight (1-4) took the loss as Denison touched him up for 10 hits and seven runs (six earned). However, he did grind his way through five innings while recording five punchouts in the process.

The Big Red (15-16, 7-5 NCAC) used a six-run third inning that featured five hits and one OC error and never looked back.

OC had no answer at the plate for Denison starter Dale McOsker (2-3) as he needed just 87 pitches to get through the Yeomen lineup seven times. He fanned six and walked just two in the complete-game win.

The Yeomen will step out of conference for a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Case Western Reserve. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
