Oberlin, Ohio –
The 2011 NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships came to end on Saturday evening, but before things were all said and done many Oberlin athletes were able to turn in some outstanding performances as the Yeowomen finished third.

Sophomore Marissa Clardy stole the show for the Yeowomen as she was named as NCAC Sprints/Hurdles MVP for her performance. The Kittanning, Pennsylvania, native won the 400 meters by improving upon her NCAA provisional qualifying time with a mark of 58.58. She also ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 meter relay team that set a new NCAC meet record with a mark of 4:04.43, and the winning 4x200 meter relay (1:46.34).

The 4x200 performance is a new Oberlin record, erasing the old mark of 1:47.41 that has stood since the year 2000. Running in front of Clardy was first-year Sophia Brancazio, junior Melissa Elie and senior Amanda Miller. The threesome ahead of her in the recording setting 4x400 consisted of Sybil Levine, Laura Vernon and Miller.

Other promising Yeowomen performances included first-year Molly Martorella's second-place finish in the mile as she was one second off an NCAA provisional standard at 5:05. Senior Joanna Johnson checked in second in the 3,000 meters at 10:04.56, which shattered the meet record by eight seconds, however Distance MVP Kaitlin Zimmerly of OWU touched the tape first in 10:02.96. Martorella also turned in a solid run in the 3K as she ended fourth in 10:20.79.

Amanda Gracia added five team points by placing fourth in the 200 meters with a timestamp of 2:23.99, while first-year Ava Keating checked in fifth in 55-meter hurdles at 9.16. Junior Courtney Konow also turned in a school-record toss of 31-01.25 in the weight throw to place seventh overall.

As a team the Yeowomen totaled 114 points, checking in ahead of Kenyon by just two points. Ohio Wesleyan won the event with 228 points, while Allegheny was second with 125 points.

Be sure to check goyeo.com later this week to see if any other Yeowomen will be joining Johnson at nationals.
