Oberlin Tops Thomas in First Game of the Day

Mike McDonald picked up his first-career save in game one.

Mesa, Ariz. – Freshman Mattie Dedoes picked up his second win of the trip and classmate Mike McDonald earned the first save of his career as the Oberlin College baseball team beat Thomas College 6-2 in their first of two nine-inning games on the day.

Dedoes worked 6.2 innings and surrendered just three hits and four walks, while striking out four on 102 pitches. McDonald, who entered with a 2-0 lead to record the final out of the seventh, registered five groundball outs and struck out one.

Senior Brandon Cantrill continues to swing a hot bat as he finished 3-for-4 with two RBI's, a triple and two stolen bases. His single down the left line in the first plated Zach Kisley and Cantrill made it a 2-0 game in the sixth thanks to his two-out triple.

The Yeomen would tack on four more in the eighth on run-producing singles by Ben Puterbaugh and Sean Cohen. Phinney would drive in another run as he reached on error and Cantrill scored on a double steal.

Oberlin concludes their trip by taking on Gustavus Adolphus with the approximate start time of 3 p.m. EST.
