Box Score

Adrian, MI – Sophomore Malisa Hoak scored a career-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough as the Oberlin College women's basketball team concluded the 2011 calendar year by falling to the Bulldogs of Adrian, 57-50, on New Year's Eve.

Hoak finished 7-of-16 from the floor and was the only Yeowoman to make a 3-pointer in the contest. Rookie sensation Christina Marquette added her sixth double-digit effort of the season with 16 points and tied Kelly Warlich with a team-high seven rebounds.

Oberlin jumped out to an early 9-4 lead and was clinging to a 14-13 cushion with 9:51 left in the opening half, but the Bulldogs rallied to claim a 30-24 lead at the break.

In the second session, Ellen Neumann's first bucket of the season cut the Bulldogs lead down to three, 32-29, with 14:27 left to play. However, Adrian responded with a quick 7-0 spurt to push the lead back out to 10, 39-29, at the 11:16 mark.

The Yeowomen continued to fight, getting the deficit down to four, 41-37, with 8:35 remaining, but would get no closer the rest of the way.

Oberlin was hindered by a poor shooting performance as it made just 35.2-percent of its shots (19-of-54), including a lackluster 2-of-17 (11.8%) effort from beyond the arc. Adrian checked in at 40.7-percent (22-of-54) in the win.

The Yeowomen will have a quick turnaround as they welcome Heidelberg University to Philips Gym on Monday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
