Alma, Mich. – Behind a career-high 33 points from senior point guard Josh Merritt, the Oberlin College men's basketball team was able to outlast the Scots of Alma, 74-66, on Saturday afternoon.

Merritt cashed in 12-of-17 attempts from the field and went 8-of-11 at the charity stripe. The San Francisco, California, native also added seven assists and five rebounds in the win. Junior Andrew Fox recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Charlie Crawford-Silva and Geoff Simpson chipped in with 11 points apiece.

The first half was tightly contested as the lead changed nine times and no more than five points separated the two teams along the way. OC went into the locker room with slight 25-24 edge.

The Scots came out scorching hot in the second half and grabbed a 10-point lead, 35-25, just 2:30 into the frame. However, the Yeomen were able to battle back, claiming a 44-43 lead with just under 12 minutes to play. Oberlin led 64-62 with 2:33 remaining, and used some stiff defense and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to preserve the win.

The Yeomen had one of their best shooting performances of the season as they finished with a 45.6-percent (26-of-57) success rate. The Yeomen also won the rebounding battle by a 41-33 count.

Oberlin enters the holiday break with a record of 4-5. The Yeomen return to action on December 30 when they play host to Anderson University.
