Big Red Takes Down Yeowomen

Oberlin, Ohio- The Oberlin College women's field hockey team was defeated this afternoon by the Big Red of Denison University. The final score of this NCAC matchup was 8-2.

After giving up an early goal in the first half, the Yeowomen went on the offensive attack when Eloise Reid put a ball in the back of the cage after Jodi Helsel had two shots saved by the goalie. Reid's goal came off a rebound after a shot by Helsel. The goal was Reid's second of the season and tied the game up 1-1 with 20 minutes to go in the first half. The Big Red would answer with three goals in the final 20 minutes of the first half.

Oberlin's next goal would not come until the 60th minute of the match, when Lindani Johnson took a shot off a beautiful pass by Helsel. This goal would make the score 7-2. Denison would add one more late score to finish the game.

Denison had the advantage in shots (24-9), while the Yeowomen had the advantage in penalty corners (13-4).

The Yeowomen have a quick turn around as they host Transylvania tomorrow, October 14 at 12 p.m.
