Gators Down Yeowomen

Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio
– Cold shooting plagued the Oberlin College women's basketball team as they fell to Allegheny College 71-45 on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gym.

The Yeowomen, who were without NCAC Player of the Year candidate Allison Anderson for the second straight game, made just 17-of-57 shots (29.8%) and turned it over 20 times.

Rookie Malisa Hoak got the start in place of Anderson and did finish with career-highs in points (12) and assists (5). Senior Syrea Thomas was the only other Yeowoman in double-figures as she finished with 11 points while matching Kelly Warlich with a team-high eight rebounds.

Allegheny (9-6, 3-2 NCAC) had four players in double-digits with Jill Gregory leading the way with 15 points. Daryl Ford posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The first-half was especially troubling for the Yeowomen (6-10, 1-4 NCAC) as they trailed 39-15 at the break. However, the second half was more tightly contested as the Gators scored 32 points compared to Oberlin's 30.

Allegheny, which shot 43.5 percent (30-of-69), also benefited from a 50-34 advantage on the glass.

The Yeowomen will look to get back on track when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
