Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team hung right with the visiting Kenyon College Ladies for 35 minutes, but a big second half by the visitors resulted in them coming away with a 4-1 win over the Yeowomen on Thursday afternoon.
Despite the outcome, it was the Yeowomen who struck first as first-year
Karin Yoshida cashed in her third goal of the season in the 20th minute. Junior
Emily Whitaker got the assist on the play.
However, the Ladies (4-4, 3-1 NCAC) would get back to even before the first-half horn would sound on a goal by Annie Hulkower.
In the second half Kenyon really controlled the tempo, evident by a 15-2 shot advantage. All in all the Ladies outshot the Yeowomen 28-5 in the contest.
The Ladies added three goals over the final 35 minutes to secure the win with Liz McBean scoring two of them.
Oberlin (4-2, 1-2 NCAC) was held to a season-low four penalty corners, while the Ladies triggered 13 of their own.
Kiran Puri did her part keeping the Yeowomen in the game she came away with 16 saves.
Oberlin will look to get back on track when it travels to Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon. The opening touch is set for 2 p.m.
