Series Information ...

Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Terriers 23-28 … Saturday marks the 52nd meeting between the two foes with their first meeting coming all the way back in 1895 – as the Yeomen routed the Terriers won 52-0 … Last season, the Yeomen defeated the Terriers 34-29 to close out the season … In that meeting, freshman quarterback David Kalgren had arguably his best game of the season as he threw and rushed for career-highs, 219 yards and 116 yards, respectively … The Yeomen led by as many 10 points in the second quarter but needed a late defensive stand to preserve the win … The Yeomen were led defensively by Shawn Chrapczynski, Derrick Dennis, and Matt Misorski as each of them recorded eight tackles for a defense that racked up six tackles for a loss in the game.

Scouting the Terriers…

The Scots are coming off of a narrow 31-24 loss to Denison University in overtime … Hiram led by as many as 14 points into the fourth quarter but gave up 21 unanswered points in the fourth and overtime … Hiram is led offensively by sophomore quarterback Brendan Rehor who is completing 68.8 percent of his passes for an average of 258.7 yards per game … The Terriers biggest offensive weapon is senior wideout Glenn Campbell, who through three games, has 28 catches for 384 yards and two touchdowns … Last week against Hiram, Campbell caught 15 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns … Defensively, the Terriers are led by two-time All-NCAC junior linebacker Jon Hull and Oliver Dickerhoof, both of whom have 31 tackles on the season … While Dickerhoof leads the team in sacks with 3, Hull has two fumble recoveries, returning one of the two for a touchdown.

Tough Sledding …

For the second straight week, the Yeomen have struggled to get the ground game going … Against the Scots, the Yeomen could muster only 41 yards on the ground … The inability to run became ever more of a problem as the Yeomen once again became one-dimensional … Quarterback Josh Mandel, coming off his 335 yard performance against Kenyon, only threw for 160 yards and was picked off three times … In order to take the pressure off of Mandel, who is still only in his first full year as the starter, the running back tandem of Drew Mixter and Moses Richardson in conjunction with an experienced offensive line must work to get the running game back on track for Oberlin.

Hello Harvey …

Last week against the Scots, senior wide receiver Ryan Harvey stepped up in a big way by once again emerging as a deep threat for the Yeomen … The Perry, Ohio native caught five passes for 90 yards and two scores … He now has seven career TD catches … Look for the combo of Adam Niec and Harvey to carry the Yeomen receiving corps for the rest of the season, as they are becoming Mandel's go-to receivers

Shootout in the Making? …

The Yeomen and Terriers have both been giving up large chunks of yards in the early part of the season as the Oberlin defense has surrendered 425 yards per game, while the Terriers are allowing 416 yards per contest … With shaky defense and explosive and dynamic offenses on the field, this year's matchup has all the makings of an old-fashioned shootout … Oberlin will need everyone on their defense to step up their game to look to slow the Terrier offensive attack.

A New Record …

Junior punter Cory Kidd is on pace for one of the best season's in Oberlin history punting the football … Against the Scots, Kidd set a new singe-game school record with 48.8-yard average, besting the previous record by more than two yards … Kidd unseated Kevney O'Connor whose previous record of 46.6 yards against Denison University has stood since 1949 … On the season, the Wellington, Ohio native has punted the ball nine times for an average of 46.7 yards per kick … The record for average yards in a season stands at 40.4 yards set by Dave Bruno in the 1982 season.
