Yeowomen Defeat Earlham

Richmond, Ind. - The Oberlin College field hockey team defeated Earlham College this afternoon by a score of 5-1. The win marks the third straight victory for the Yeowomen.

“The girls played a solid game this afternoon,” Head Coach Deb Ranieri said. “We played a nice passing game and the team really stepped up on defense.”

The Yeowomen scored three goals in the first half. Emily Whitaker scored the first goal with teammate Lindani Johnson providing the assist. Gillian Winbourn scored the second goal off of a corner ten minutes later.

Whitaker scored her second goal of the afternoon in the second half unassisted. Johnson and Danielle Gillam also tallied up goals for the Yeowomen in the second half.

The Yeowomen outshot Earlham 28-9 and had 7 more penalty corners. On the defensive side of the game, Kiran Puri had a solid afternoon with six saves.

The Yeowomen return to action September 14th at home against Trine.
