Oberlin, Ohio - Oberlin College Hall of Famer and former lacrosse star,
Bill Webster ('61) is to be inducted into the Ohio Chapter of the United States Lacrosse Association Hall of Fame this year. The ceremony will be held in Columbus, Ohio on June 12, 2010.
Although Webster never played lacrosse in high school, he became a nationally recognized player by his senior year in college, a year in which he was named an All-American, as he led all midfielders in the country in scoring. The Yeomen captain accomplished this feat at a time when there was only one All-America team, which encompassed all schools throughout the country.
By the end of his freshman year in college, he was a starting midfielder for the Yeomen and quickly developed into one of the best players in the nation. Through his level of play as one of the pioneer players in Ohio, he helped lacrosse in the Midwest region become accepted by the eastern elite.
While at Oberlin, Webster also was a four year starter and two-time All-Midwest selection in soccer. During his career on the lacrosse field, the Yeomen compiled a record of 39-5-1. Webster garnered an All-Midwest Lacrosse Association selection three times in his four year career. In 1961, he was selected to play in the North-South National All-Star Game, helping the South team to victory on that day before making it back to Oberlin just in time for graduation. Webster also played on four MLA Championship teams, two of which when undefeated during his tenure.
Following completion of his Oberlin degree, Webster graduated from The Ohio State University Veterinary School at the top of his class.
