Box Score
Oberlin, Ohio – Strong Offense by the visiting Allegheny College Gators lifted them past the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team 19-11 on Friday evening.
Oberlin (3-11, 0-6 NCAC) had a fine offensive game of its own, but just couldn't keep pace with the Gators.
Alice Zicht led the OC attack with three goals and two assists, while also scooping up a game-high seven groundballs. First-year standout
Molly Bloom also cashed in three scores in the game.
Fellow rookies
Grace Amber and
Ilyssa Meyer each had a pair of goals on the night.
The Yeowomen couldn't take advantage of some early opportunities as three 8-meter attempts within the first five minutes of play were turned away by Gators' keeper Rebecca O'Shurak, who finished with eight saves in the first 30 minutes of play.
Unfortunately the Yeowomen struggled on 8-meter attempts throughout the game – ending just 1-for-7.
The slow start allowed the Gators to build a 5-0 lead before the Yeowomen got on the board. Oberlin fought back to within three, 7-4, with 12:31 left in the opening half. However, Allegheny closed the frame with four straight goals to take a 13-5 lead at the break and eventually lead by as many as 12 in the second half.
Despite being out-shot 32-23, Oberlin won the groundball battle 25-15 and draw controls were even at 16 each.
Oberlin will conclude its 2010 season on Sunday against North Central College. The Yeowomen will honor senior
Maddie Fierstein before the game. The opening draw is set for 11 a.m.
