Series: Oberlin trails the all-time series 18-25-1

Last Meeting Against the Gators
: Oberlin lost to Allegheny College 22-0 on September 26, 2009 at Savage Stadium.

Last Time out for the Yeomen: Defeated Ohio Wesleyan University 16-12 (11/6/10)

Series Information ...
Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Gators 18-25-1 with the first meeting between the two schools coming all the way back in 1907 when the Yeomen shutout the Gators 25-0 in Oberlin … In the 2009 matchup, the Yeomen were only able to gain 104 yards of total offense while the Gators racked up 505 total yards on their way to a dominant performance over the Yeomen and a 22-0 victory … The Gators possessed the ball for 44 minutes while the Yeomen struggled with the football, holding onto the ball for only 16 minutes in the game … Despite the ineffectiveness of the offense, the Yeomen did get strong defensive performances from Tyler Lewis, Dane Stritt, and Ron Rupard, each of which had double digit tackles in the game.

Scouting the Gators …
Allegheny enters Saturday's matchup following a 43-21 win over Hiram College last week … The Gators are led offensively by senior quarterback T.J. Salopek, who is completing 67% of his passes and is three yards away from throwing for 2,000 yards this season … His favorite target is senior David Strawser, who has hauled in 41 balls for 521 yards to go along with five touchdowns … Senior wide receiver Terry Hartford is the Gators' main redzone threat as he has hauled in eight of Salopek's 18 touchdown passes … On defense, senior strong safety Sid Facaros has a nose for the ball, as he leads the team in tackles with 62 and interceptions with four … He also has one fumble recovery, which he returned 76 yards for a touchdown … Off the edge, the Yeomen will have to be aware of sophomore defensive end John Douglas, who leads the team in tackles for a loss (11) and sacks (3.5).

Last Hurrah …

Saturday's matchup marks the final game for a very talented and successful group of seniors for the Yeomen … The Yeomen will graduate 10 seniors, including placekicker Zach Richard, wide receiver Ryan Harvey, quarterback Joey Zebelian, defensive back and co-captain Solomon Turner, center and co-captain Chris Pottmeyer, defensive lineman Adam Wigren, linebacker Ron Rupard, offensive linemen Chris Creech and Mike Law and defensive lineman Cody Wiewandt … Five (Richard, Turner, Pottmeyer, Wigren and Wiewandt) of the 10 seniors have been named All-NCAC in their careers. … Furthermore, Pottmeyer has started in every game of his illustrious four-year career.

Limiting the Three and Outs …
Oberlin currently sits at second in the NCAC in third down conversion percentage, converting just over 43% (58-of-134) of their tries … Allegheny, on the other hand, sits at second in the NCAC in stopping their opponents on third down, giving up a first down only 31% of the time … It will be important for the Yeomen to stay out of third and long situations and convert on third down to maintain the edge in time of possession that they have had all season … The Yeomen lead the league in time of possession at 33:57.

Chalk It Up …
For the fifth straight game the Yeomen rushed for over 100 yards as a team … Junior running back Drew Mixter pushed his season total to 538 yards following last week with his 94 yard performance and upped his yards per carry average to 4.6 yards per carry … Freshman Moses Richardson also saw his most productive game against the Bishops as he carried a career-high 18 times for 53 yards adding to his season total of now 215 yards on the ground … Allegheny is currently tops in the NCAC in rushing defense only giving up 66.3 yards per contest … It will be interesting to see if the Yeomen offense is able to keep a strong run game against the Gators … It will also be important that Oberlin does not become too one-dimensional … For the Yeomen, the key to their success has been their ability to stay balanced on offense.

Taking Care of Business …

After the hard fought win over the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University, the Yeomen have put themselves in a position to go 5-5 for the first time since 2007 and the fourth time under Head Coach Jeff Ramsey … Four of Allegheny's nine games this season have been decided by seven points or less … If the Yeomen can take care of the ball, limit the penalties, and keep the game close in the second half, they should be able to send the seniors out in style riding a three game win streak to end the season.

A New Record Looming …
Junior punter/wide receiver Cory Kidd's punting average currently sits at 40.7 yards per punt this season … The current school record for punting average in a single season is held by Dave Bruno when his punts covered an average of 40.4 yards in 1982 … Kidd, who has been a weapon on special teams, has also had a productive season at wide receiver hauling in 22 balls for 243 yards and one touchdown this season … If he hopes to break the single season record for punting, Kidd will have to continue to be a weapon on special teams as he has all season … Last week he placed two balls inside the 10 yard-line, one of which setup a Yeomen safety.
