Series Information ...

Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Battling Bishops 20-48-1 with the first meeting between the two schools came all the way back in 1892 when the Yeomen rolled over the Battling Bishops 56-0 en route to its first undefeated season at 7-0 under John W. Heisman … In the 2009 matchup, the Yeomen fell victim to a last second 18-yard field goal by Bishops' kicker Trey Stalnaker … The score was a 14-14 deadlock at the break, with the game-winning field goal proving to be the only scoring of the second half … Following a fourth down stand by the Bishops' defense, their offense was able to drive all the way down to the Yeomen 1-yard line, kicking the game winning field goal with 16 seconds left to play.

Scouting the Battling Bishops …

Ohio Wesleyan enters Saturday's matchup coming off of their first win of the season after defeating Kenyon College 30-14 last week … The Bishops are led offensively by freshman quarterback Mason Espinosa, who has thrown for just under 1,400 yards this season … Espinosa likes to distribute the ball evenly among his receivers as four different pass catchers have at least one touchdown and 200 yards on the year… Defensively, Ohio Wesleyan is led by senior linebacker Chad Murawski, who leads the team with 83 tackles and three interceptions this season … Off the edge, the Yeomen will have to be wary of sophomore defensive end James Huddleston, who leads the Bishops with seven sacks and is third on the team in tackles with 52 … Huddleston was also NCAC Defensive Player of the Week this past week after having a big day against Kenyon with 10 tackles, three sacks, four tackles for a loss, and one pass breakup.

Battle of Players of the Week …

The NCAC announced on Sunday that sophomore wideout Robin Witjes was named NCAC Offensive Player of the Week after his outstanding day against Denison University which saw him catch three passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns … For Ohio Wesleyan, sophomore defensive end James Huddleston was named NCAC Defensive Player of the Week … It will be interesting this week to see which Player of the Week has the upper-hand and the better day … Each of these players will be looked towards to have a big day if their teams' are to be successful.

Limiting the Penalty Yardage …
Last week against the Big Red, the Yeomen were flagged nine times for a total of 120 yards in penalty yardage … The Yeomen also had one personal foul penalty declined … On the season, Oberlin has committed 38 penalties that have covered 10 or more yards … The Yeomen have committed 57 total penalties for 570 yards, averaging exactly ten yards per penalty on the season … The best performance by Oberlin was against Wabash where the team committed only two penalties for 15 yards … The Yeomen have also had six penalties that would have covered 10+ yards either declined or offset … These penalties have been killing drives for the Yeomen and extending drives for the opposition … Oberlin's average of 71.2 penalty yards per game is third from the bottom in the NCAC … Now in week nine, the Yeomen need to have things cleaned up so that they can end their season on a positive note.

Yeomen Ground Game on a Roll …

The Yeomen have rushed, for over 100 yards in five of their last six games and four in a row… Junior running back Drew Mixter has been the main beneficiary of strong play by the offensive line, having rushed for 444 yards for an average of 4.5 yards per carry … Mixter has three runs this season of over 20 yards and has eclipsed the 100-yard mark twice this season, with his most recent 100-yard performance coming last week against the Big Red … Ohio Wesleyan is currently ranked eighth in the conference ahead of only Hiram College in run defense this season, giving up an average of 168.6 yards per game to the opposition … Along with Mixter, look for freshman Moses Richardson and quarterback Josh Mandel to exploit a weak run defense again this week against the Bishops.

Looking to Get Even ...
With the Bishops coming to town this week and a very beatable Allegheny College coming next week, the Yeomen are looking to go 5-5 for the first time since the 2007 season … After dropping five of their first seven games, a three game winning streak to end the season would give the Yeomen a nice spark heading into next season … While the season finale against the Gators will not count towards Oberlin's conference record, a win this week would give OC a 3-3 record in conference play and a chance to finish in fourth place in the league.
