Big Red Shuts Out Yeowomen

Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio -
In a critical North Coast Athletic Conference game for both teams it was the Denison University Big who were able to come away with a 3-0 victory over Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeowomen played solid defense throughout the game as goaltender Kiran Puri continued her impressive season by making 18 saves on the day. Freshman Marissa Blackwell also added her team-leading sixth defensive save of the season.

After a slow start offensively for the Yeowomen, the momentum of the game swung significantly in the second half. OC registered eight penalty corners over the final 35 minutes of play, but failed to attempt one in the opening period. Furthermore, five of the team's eight shots came in the second half as well.

The passing and intensity picked up as Oberlin was able to get into rhythm on offense. As time expired, the Yeowomen had three penalty corners with opportunities to score, but couldn't push one past Denison goalie Brittany Benson who had five saves on the day.

Gillian Winbourn led OC with three shot attempts, while Eloise Reid and Emily Whitaker each had two.

Oberlin returns to action on October 12 at Ohio Wesleyan.
