Series Information ...

Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Big Red 15-47-3 … The first meeting between the two schools came all the way back in 1911 when the Yeomen edged the Big Red in a 9-0 defensive battle … In the 2007 matchup, the Yeomen jumped out to a 24-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back … Denison was able to cut the lead to 34-27 with 3:43 left in the game, but it proved too little, too late for the Big Red as the Yeomen were able to run out the clock to escape with the win … The Yeomen were led in the game by Oberlin's all-time leading passer Greg Mangan as he hooked up with receiver Cassius Harris for two scores to go along with 220 yards passing.

Scouting the Big Red …
Denison comes into Saturday's matchup riding a five game losing streak … After winning their first three games of the season, the Big Red have dropped games to the likes of Case Western Reserve University, the College of Wooster, and Wabash College, along with Allegheny College and the University of Chicago … In their five losses, the Big Red are being outscored 183-78, giving up an average of 36.6 points in those games … Denison is led by sophomore quarterback Max Paulus, who has thrown for over 1,600 yards this season … The Big Red uses a two tailback tandem as sophomore tailback Sam Fioroni has run for seven touchdowns this season, while senior tailback Dan Crawford has two scores of his own to go along with 368 yards on the ground … Defensive back Alex Sychar leads the team with 54 tackles, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles … The Yeomen will have to contain sophomore defensive lineman Nat Kell who leads the team with seven sacks and 11.5 tackles for a loss.

Big Day in the Secondary …
Denison quarterback Max Paulus is only completing 56.7 percent of his passes and has thrown 11 interceptions already this season … Look for the Yeomen to try and get added pressure up front, in order to create turnover opportunities for the Yeomen secondary that already has eight interceptions through the first seven games … The tandem of #C.J. Plyler# (3) and David Kalgren (4) have been to biggest thieves thus far, accounting for seven of those take-aways.

Middle of the Road …

The Big Red sit in the middle of the pack in most statistical categories in the NCAC … This could bode well for the Yeomen both offensively and defensively … Denison is giving up nearly 30 points per game defensively, while only scoring 21 points per game … If the Yeomen defense can get a few early stops and the high octane offense could put some quick scores on the board, it could be enough to take the wind out of Denison's sails early in the game.

Battle in the Trenches …

Denison sits at the bottom of the conference in sacks given up with 30 already this season … On the defensive side of the ball, however, Denison is tied for second in the conference with 16 sacks of their own … With a banged up offensive line for the Yeomen - as well as a steady pass rush defensively - look for the battle in the trenches to be the key to the game … Whichever team can keep their quarterback upright should leave Savage Stadium victorious … This could bode well for the Yeomen, with quarterback Josh Mandel's ability to avoid pressure … The sophomore has amassed 207 yards and five touchdowns on the ground on the year.

Keep the Flag in Your Pocket …

The Yeomen and the Big Red both need to execute well on Saturday, by limiting the penalties … Denison sits at the top of the conference in penalties, committing only 38 through eight games this season … Last week the Yeomen were flagged seven times for a total of 64 yards … If Oberlin can limit the penalties the way the Big Red have this season, they should have a good chance of winning on Saturday.
