Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College field hockey team defeated Earlham College 6-3 this afternoon.
The Yeowomen started out strong in the first half, jumping out to a 2-0 lead under six minutes into the game.
Emily Whitaker scored the first goal of the afternoon.
Karin Yoshida scored the next goal on an assist from
Lindani Johnson. The Yeowomen dominated the first part of the half.
The momentum swung back to Earlham as they scored three unanswered goals. The Yeowomen tied the game up going into half time on an unassisted goal by
Emily Whitaker.
The second half was completely controlled by the Yeowomen. OC did not allow the Quakers to squeeze off a single shot in the half, while racking up 23 shots and three goal of their own.
Senior
Danielle Gillam netted two scores and was assisted on her second goal by Whitaker. The last goal of the afternoon came courtesy of
Gillian Winbourn on a high arching shot that got over the Earlham goalie.
"The team played very well this afternoon," said Head Coach Deb Ranieri. "It was great to see the support from the alumni and their families in attendance."
