Meadville, Pa. – Cold shooting hindered the Oberlin College women's basketball team as it dropped a NCAC road game at Allegheny College 70-49 on Wednesday night.
The Yeowomen connected on just 17-of-63 shots (27%) – including 2-of-19 (10.5%) from downtown in the loss, while the Gators shot a much more efficient 40.6-percent as they dialed in on 28-of-69 attempts.
The rookie duo
Allison Anderson and
Kelly Warlich combined for 28 points to lead the Oberlin offense. Anderson added seven steals to go along with her 15 points, while Warlich contributed five boards in addition to 13 points.
Oberlin (3-15, 2-7 NCAC) grabbed an early 9-4 lead, but from that point on the Gators took control as they led 34-23 at the break.
Allegheny (7-10, 4-4 NCAC) led by 18, 46-28, with 15:23 remaining in the game, but a pair of Warlich free throws got Oberlin to within 10, 51-41, with just over 10 minutes to play. Unfortunately, the Yeowomen would get no closer the rest of the way.
On a positive note, a stiff Oberlin defense played in a role in 20 Allegheny turnovers, which led to 16 Yeowomen points. The Yeowomen also converted 13-of-17 free throws for a 76.5-percent success rate.
The Yeowomen will look to complete the season sweep of Earlham when the Quakers come to town on Saturday for a 1 p.m. conference clash.
