Pittsburgh Pa. – Senior goalie and co-captain Christie Zelnik turned in a tremendous effort with 10 saves, but the Oberlin offense never got in a rhythm as the Carnegie Mellon Tartans defeated the Oberlin College Yeowomen 3-0 in women's soccer action on Friday night.

“Christie played great tonight,” Head Coach Kristen Hayden said. “We just didn't do a good job of possessing the ball and helping her out at all. They are a really good team and we you give them that many opportunities to score, one of them is bound to get through.”

Throughout the first half the Tartans controlled the tempo of play, but couldn't get on the board as Zelnik turned away all five of their shots on goal. Carnegie Mellon kept the pressure on, as it appeared they were going to get on the board before the break, but Zelnik denied three shots and saw one other bang off the post over the final eight minutes of the opening stanza.

The Tartans finally pushed one past Zelnik in the 56th minute as Katie Davis followed a save by Zelnik to find the back of the cage. The second CMU score came in similar fashion as Elsa Wu took a rebound off an OC save to add an insurance goal. The victors would add one more tally in the 79th minute.

Unfortunately, the Yeowomen were able unable to trigger a single shot attempt on the night, while the Tartans fired off 20 with 13 coming on goal.

Oberlin returns to action on Wednesday night at nearby Baldwin-Wallace College. The opening touch is slated for 7 p.m.
