Gambier, Ohio -
After a slow start, the Oberlin Field Hockey team fell 7-2 to Kenyon College in Wednesday's North Coast Athletic Conference action.

The Yeowomen played a little sluggish to start out the contest and quickly found themselves down 2-0 in the opening minutes of today's conference tilt.  After regrouping on the road Oberlin was able to answer back scoring their first goal on a well played penalty corner.  Junior Gillian Winbourn assisted sophomore attacker Emily Whitaker who notched her third goal of the season.

Head Coach Deb Ranieri said, "After Emily answered back with a goal things looked pretty good.  We were able to battle back and gain some momentum."

The momentum was short-lived for Oberlin though as Kenyon scored two minutes later and took a 3-1 lead into the break.

Kenyon answered Oberlin's lone first-half goal scoring the next four, building a 6-1 lead and effectively putting the game out of reach.  Whitaker did find the back of the net again in the second half, scoring her second goal of the game with just under nine minutes remaining.

The home team added one more goal making the final 7-2.  Among the bright spots for the Yeowomen was junior defender Natasha Cohan, who made a defensive save in the first half keeping the Yeowomen close.  First-year Emily Bigelow also notched 17 saves as she went the distance in goal for Oberlin.

Coach Ranieri was pleased with the second half effort despite the outcome, but said, "You have to give them [Kenyon] credit, they made some pretty plays and found different opportunties to score, and then cashed in on them."

Oberlin will return home on Saturday, October 3 to face another conference foe, Wittenberg.  The game is slated for a 2:00 pm start.
