Series Info…
Oberlin trails in the all-time series against the Bishops 20-47-1 … Saturday marks the 69th meeting between the two schools, dating all the way back to 1892 … Oberlin's last win against the Bishops came last year, as the Yeomen won their first game of the 2008 season, coming away with a 28-15 win at Savage Stadium… In a game that seemed to be dominated by field position and defense the Yeomen defense forced only one turnover, but a big one at that, as in the fourth quarter Austin Richards recovered a fumble and returned it 44 yards for the clinching score for the Yeomen … Despite the fact that the Bishop offense had more total yards than the Yeomen offense, the game was played pretty even … R.V. Carroll rushed for 147 yards on 23 carries including a touchdown run of eight yards … Mike Loll also caught seven balls for 55 yards including two scores.

Scouting the Bishops …
Ohio Wesleyan, like the Yeomen, are looking for their first win of the season as they open the season 0-3 following losses to Carnegie Mellon, and perennial NCAC foes The College of Wooster and Wittenberg … Last week the Bishops were blanked on the road as they fell to a powerful Wittenberg team, 20-0 … The Yeomen offense and defense will have to work together as the Bishop offense has struggled of late, avering just 247 yards per game, but on the flip side their defense has been outstanding, limiting opponents to just 284.7 yards of total offense per game … The Bishop offense is a young group featuring two young quarterbacks, freshman Mike Bashioum and sophomore Keegan Varner, and a three young halfbacks, freshmen Stephen Haynes (the team's leading rusher), Isaac Morris, and Bryan Hoover … The Bishop defense on the other hand is a seasoned group with a ton of experience, as they will provide another tough obstacle for the Yeomen offense … In a run first style of offense, the Bishops have gained an average of 147.7 yards per game on the ground, while only compiling 99.3 yards per game through the air.

Safety Valve …
Junior safeties Tyler Lewis and Solomon Turner currently lead the team with 25 and 18 total tackles, respectively, this season … Lewis currently leads the team in tackles despite only playing in two of the first three games … Turner also has recorded an interception and a sack on the year … Both of them have provided a sound last line of defense for the Yeomen as they flock to the ball and are normally in on most every play.

Your Guess is as Good as Mine …
Each of the past two games, the player listed as the starting quarterback has come off the bench as a game time decision was made to change starting quarterbacks … Against Case Western Reserve, junior Joey Zebelian was listed as the starting quarterback, however, it was freshman David Kalgren who made his first start of the season … Last week against the Gators of Allegheny College, Kalgren was slated to start, but Zebelian came out to take the first snaps of the ball game … Neither has been effective thus far, but both bring different tools to the table … Zebelian, more of a pocket passer, has thrown for 165 yards on the year completing only 43.9 percent of his passes … Kalgren, on the other hand, is more an athlete playing the quarterback position … He has 94 yards on the season and has thrown the only Yeomen touchdown pass this season, while completing 51.9 percent of his passes

Special Forces…
The Oberlin special teams, in particular, its return game has been a beacon of hope for the struggling Yeomen … The return attack spearheaded by Junior Ryan Harvey, Sophomore Drew Mixter, and Freshman Robin Witjes, has provided the Yeomen offense shorter fields to work with returning kicks an average of 20.2 yards per kick … Even if the offense does not pick up a first down, sophomore punter Cory Kidd is having a career season averaging almost 40 yards per punt … The fact the Kidd has been able to pin opposing teams deep in their own territory has allowed Head Coach Jeff Ramsey to play the field position game and let his defense work this season.

Defense Working Overtime …
After doing a good job of crunching the clock in the first two games, the Yeomen offense struggled to stay on the field and possess the ball against the Gators last week as Yeomen offense possessed the ball for just 16 minutes, meaning their defense was on the field for 44 minutes in the game … The Oberlin offense will need to do a better job of staying on the field and giving the defense a chance to catch their breath … In a game that looks to be a defensive struggle, it will be essential that the Yeomen defense is rested and at full strength for the entirety of the contest.

Somethings Gotta Give ...
Oberlin and Ohio Wesleyan both come into the contest winless with 0-3 records … The Yeomen and Bishops have both come up short against three tough opponents … This weekend will culminate in the first win of the season for one of these teams, and more importantly, the first conference victory as well.
