Field Hockey Gives Great Effort, but Falls Short Against Denison

Emily Whitaker scored Oberlin's first goal of the season on Saturday.
Box Score

Oberlin, Ohio –
An inspiring team effort by the Oberlin College field hockey team was not enough to get past the Denison University Big Red on Saturday afternoon as the Yeowomen were edged 3-1.

A tightly contested first half nearly resulted in a 0-0 tie at the break, but the Big Red were benefited by a foul call that allowed Emily Marshall to score on a penalty stroke.

The Big Red would add another goal 11 minutes into the second half, but OC quickly responded with its first goal of the season, coming off the stick of Emily Whitaker.

Just minutes later the Yeowomen had an opportunity to tie the game, but Gillian Winbourn's shot drew the post and Whitaker's follow sailed wide.

Denison would add an insurance goal with less than seven minutes to play to reach the game's final count.

Rookie goalie Emily Bigelow continues to impress as she made six saves on the day. Natasha Cohan and Jessica Kincaid also recorded one defensive save, respectively.

Oberlin is now 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC.
