Luther Too Tough For Oberlin

Oberlin looks to bounce back tomorrow.
Game One Box l Game Two Box

Mesa, Arizona – The Oberlin College baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Luther College on Tuesday afternoon at the Gene Autry Park in Mesa, Arizona. The Yeomen dropped game one 16-0 and game two 6-2.

In the nightcap, Oberlin (4-10) was led by a pair of 2-for-4 efforts from Jeremy Simon and Ben Puterbaugh.

Luther (7-3) took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but it could have been much worse as starting pitcher Phil Brua left the bases loaded.

The Norse plated three more runs in the fourth and was in complete control until, Shane Hisner came through with a pinch-hit two-run single to left center that scored Ben Kauder and Brandon Cantrill in the sixth.

Unfortunately, that was all the offense the Yeomen would muster as the Norse would add two insurance runs in the seventh.

Brua worked 6.1 innings and allowed 10 hits and six runs (five earned) as he fell to 1-2 on the year.

In game one, it was all Luther as its offense scored five runs in each of the first three innings and never looked back.

Oberlin will look to regroup tomorrow morning as it will do battle against Gustavus Adolphus at 9:30 a.m. PST.
