Hiram, Ohio – Senior Jordan Beard scored 21 points in his final game in the crimson and gold, but it wasn't enough as the Oberlin College men's basketball team concluded their season with a 70-52 loss to Hiram College on Saturday afternoon.

Beard, a native of Oberlin, is one of the most decorated players in school history and will join his Father Bryon and Uncle Elliot in the ranks of elite hoopsters who have donned an Oberlin jersey.

First-year Josh Merritt continued his bid for NCAC Freshman of the Year honors with 11 points – marking his fifth double-digit performance over the last six games. Sophomore Ryan Magiera also contributed 11 in the loss.

Oberlin (5-20, 2-14 NCAC) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but Hiram responded by scoring 22 of the next 28 points to claim a 22-12 edge at the 7:40 mark of the first half. However, the Yeomen fought back to trail by just five at the break, 34-29.

Hiram (16-9, 11-5 NCAC) wasted no time in taking advantage of a slow shooting start in the second half by the Yeomen as they used a 19-5 run over the first 10 minutes of the stanza to build a 53-34 cushion and never looked back.

The Yeomen shot just 38.3-percent (18-of-47), but the Terriers were not much better at 38.7-percent (24-of-62). However, OC was plagued by 19 turnovers and was out-rebounded 40-32.

For the third-straight season, Oberlin has ended the year with five wins. However, things are promising for the future as they will return talent all across the board in 2009-10.
