Poor Shooting Plagues Yeowomen

Oberlin, Ohio – Cold shooting plagued the Oberlin College women's basketball team as they fell to Hiram College 78-58 on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeowomen, who donned pink jerseys in support of the WBCA's Pink Zone initiative to raise breast cancer awareness, shot 27.1-percent as they connected on just 19-of-70 shots on the afternoon.

Senior Alyssa Clark, who is third on the all-time scoring list with 1.399 points, finished with a game-high 26 points to go along with a team-best six boards. Alicia Smith also matched a season-high with 13 points in 27 minutes of action.

Leading 10-9 with 7:43 left in the first half, the Terriers went on a 22-9 run to close out the frame and lead 32-18 at the break.

In the second half, Hiram (7-16, 5-9 NCAC) pushed its lead out to as many as 24, but Oberlin (5-18, 3-11 NCAC) didn't go down without a fight. The Yeowomen used a 21-6 run of their own to get within nine, 51-42, with 10:57 left to play. However, Hiram responded right back with a 9-0 spurt – increasing its cushion to 18, 60-42 and never looked back.

Hiram shot 43.8-percent (21-of-48) – including 7-of-15 (46.7%) from long range. The Terriers also hoisted 43 free-throw attempts – making 29 for a 67.4-percent success rate.

Oberlin also suffered from a 51-32 disadvantage on the glass, but did win the points in the paint 24-16.

The Yeowomen return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. at Ohio Wesleyan.
