Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Oberlin College women's basketball team had no answers for Carnegie Mellon on Thursday night as it fell to the host Tartans 72-47 at Skibo Gym.

Junior Syrea Thomas was a bright spot for the Yeowomen, notching her second double-double in as many games with 16 points and 10 rebounds. First-year Allison Anderson also had a nice game with eight points and seven boards, while Emily Chu Finkel cleaned up the glass for nine rebounds of her own.

The Yeowomen got off to a slow start, knocking down just two of their first 13 shots, which allowed the Tartans to claim a 15-4 advantage nine minutes into the game. However, Oberlin fought back to get within five, 24-19, with 6:03 left in the opening period. Unfortunately, CMU responded by closing out the half with a 10-0 run to lead 34-19 at the break.

In the second half, Oberlin (0-5) got no closer than 13 as Carnegie Mellon (4-3) extended the lead all the way out to 25 with 1:49 left to play.

Oberlin was hindered by another tough shooting night, making just 15-of-63 (23.8%) of its shots. Carnegie Mellon cashed in 31-of-72 attempts for a 43.1-percent success rate.

The Yeowomen will hope to earn their first win of the season when they begin conference play at Earlham on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
