Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team outlasted the visited Alma College Scots 75-66 on Friday night at Philips Gym.

“This was another good win for us and it give us some momentum going into the second part of our season here after the break,” Head Coach
Isaiah Cavaco said. “We did some things well and now we just need to not lose our focus during the holiday layoff.”
The Scots (2-5) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, but the Yeomen responded by ripping off a 20-4 run that was capped off by a
Joe Dilworth triple-hit to make the score 20-11 with 10:14 left in the opening frame. Alma would fight back to get as close as two, 23-21, but Oberlin closed the half strong to lead 40-30 at intermission.
Four minutes into the second session, Oberlin would see its lead shrink to as little as four, 47-43, but the Scots would get no closer the rest of the way. A late Alma run got itself within six, 69-63, with 1:18 left to play, but clutch free throws by
Josh Merritt,
James Tompsett and Magiera would help seal the win.
With the win the Yeomen improved to 4-5 on the year and are now just one victory shy of matching last season's win total. The four Oberlin victories before the holiday break are the most during Coach Cavaco's tenure.
Oberlin had another good night shooting the ball, knocking down 61.4-percent (27-of-44) of its shots – including 8-of-15 from three-point land for a 53.3-percent success rate. The Yeomen defense held Alma to just 37.5-percent (21-of-56) on the night.
The Yeomen will be away from hardwood during finals week and the holiday season. They will return to action on December 30 at Anderson.
