Box Score

Delaware, Ohio –
Trey Stalnaker's 18-yard field goal with 16 seconds left to play lifted the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops to a 17-14 win over the Oberlin College football team on Saturday afternoon at Shelby Field.

The Bishops covered 61 yards on 10 plays, using 2:47 off to clock to setup Stalnaker's kick. The drive was aided by a 15-yard late hit penalty on the Yeomen that moved the ball from 46-yard line down to the Oberlin 21 with just over a minute to play. A couple solid runs by the Bishops got them all the way down to the 1-yard line before they elected to kick on third down.

Before the Bishops' game-winning drive, the Yeomen had great field position, taking over a Bishops punt  on their own 43-yard line with 7:11 left to play, but a 14-yard loss on first down put them in a huge hole. However, on 3rd-and-18 Joey Zebelian hooked up with #C.J. Holman# along the sideline for a first down to keep the drive alive. With the ball now across midfield, the Yeomen elected to run it on four straight plays, but Sean Curtis was stopped in his tracks on fourth-and-short, setting up the heartbreaking finish.

Oberlin got on the board first as sophomore safety Drew Mixter came away with a 50-yard interception return to the end zone with just under 10 minutes left to play in the opening quarter.

The Bishops would quickly even things up on the next drive as Mike Bashioum completed a 13-play, 64-yard drive with a 1-yard TD plunge.

Another Bishops touchdown would put the Yeomen in a 14-7 hole, but Oberlin would take advantage of great field position as Zebelian  connected with junior Ryan Harvey from 28 yards out to tie the game.

The second half was a offensive struggle for both teams as neither the Yeomen nor Bishops could get anything going.

All in all the Yeomen finished with just 196 yards of total offense and 12 first downs. The Bishops moved the chains 19 times and had 320 yards of offense.

Zebelian ended the day 10-of-19 for 110 yards to go along with the one score and one interception. Sean Curtis carried the ball 22 times for 67 yards, with his longest gain covering nine yards. Sophomore #C.J. Holman# led the air attack with five catches for 50 yards.

The Yeomen had three players record double-digit tackles with rookie Dane Stritt and junior Solomon Turner leading the way with 12 each. Freshman Eric Enrico added 11, while Tyler Lewis registered nine stops.

Cory Kidd had another fine day punting the ball as his six kicks covered 228 yards for an average of 38 yards per punt. His longest of the day went for 51 yards and he also landed three inside the 20.

Oberlin returns to action next Saturday when it plays host to the University of Chicago as part of Homecoming Weekend.
