Oberlin Hockey Corralled on the Road

Box Score

Granville, Ohio –
Oberlin field hockey was shutout on the road as Denison held Oberlin's offense at bay all day long and as a result cruised to a 5-0 win.

Giving up early goals has hurt Oberlin in recent games and in today's North Coast Athletic Conference tilt, Denison scored just 18 seconds into the game. A tremendous offensive barrage by Denison ensued. Oberlin was outshot on the day 39-3 and was simply unable to sustain any momentum into the scoring area.

Head Coach Deb Ranieri said, “We did some nice things and despite the outcome actually played pretty well in the midfield today. Every time we tried to make a rush though, Denison was able to put the brakes on us and mount a counter attack immediately.”

First-year Emily Bigelow made a valiant effort in goal today but the Denison offense was simply too much. Bigelow saved 17 of the 39 shots and let only five shots slide past her on a day in which she was never allowed to relax.

Also saving goals for the Yeowomen were junior defender Gillian Winbourn and first-year Jessica Kincaid, who both registered a defensive save in the game.

Oberlin enters the final week of the 2009 season and will have their final home game of the season on Wednesday, October 28, as they play host to the Ladies of Kenyon College at 4 pm.
