Richomd, Ind. –
It was a tale of two halves, but in the end the Oberlin College men's basketball team was on the wrong side of a 78-70 decision at Earlham College on Saturday afternoon.

Oberlin's newest 1,000-point scorer Jordan Beard continued his prolific offensive season with a game-high 22 points – 17 of which came in the second half. Fellow backcourt mate Omari Hall also added 12 points in the loss. First-year Dahsan Gary put together his best all-around performance of the year with nine points, nine rebounds and six assists in 34 minutes of work.

Earlham (3-16, 3-7 NCAC) came out of the locker room scorching hot as they connected on 9-of-12 triple-tries in the first half en route to claiming a 41-25 advantage at the break.

“Getting behind in the first half really put us in a tough spot,” head coach Isaiah Cavaco said. “We didn't do a good job of closing out on defense and they made us pay the price.”

Oberlin (4-15, 1-9 NCAC) outscored Earlham 45-37 over the final 20 minutes, but couldn't quite come all the way back to steal the win. OC managed to get within eight on six separate occasions but would get no closer on this day.

The Yeomen shot 50.9-percent (28-of-55) in the game, while Earlham was an even 50-percent (25-of-50). The difference, however, came from long range where there Quakers nailed 13-of-27 (48.1%) triple-tries compared to 9-of-25 (36%) for the Yeomen. One can also argue that the game was decided at the line as Earlham made 17 trips to the stripe – making 15 (88.2%), while OC took just seven charity tosses – converting five (71.4%).

Oberlin will look to bust back into the win column when Allegheny comes to town on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. tip.
