January 3 –
Playing in their first game in three weeks, the Oberlin College men's basketball team suffered a 68-49 setback at the hands of Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gym.

The Yeomen were guided by senior Jordan Beard with 15 points, while second-year player Ryan Magiera added 10 of his own. Freshman Josh Merritt also contributed nine points in the loss.

Oberlin (2-8, 0-3 NCAC) hung tight in the early going as an Omari Hall triple-hit made it a 22-19 Tiger advantage with 9:38 left in the opening half, but unfortunately Wittenberg (5-6, 2-1 NCAC) scored 18 of the frame's final 24 points to go into the locker room with a 40-25 halftime lead.

The Tigers increased their intensity in the second half, building a 26-point edge, 60-34, with 10:17 left to play, but Oberlin continued to fight by ripping off a 13-2 run over the next six minutes to get within 15, 62-47, but was unable to close the gap any further the rest of the way.

In the end, Oberlin had no answer for Kevin Murray who led all scorers with 25 points on 11-of-19 shooting. Michael Cooper and Mark Snyder also added 10 apiece for the victors.

OC finished just 18-of-52 (34.6%) from the floor, while Wittenberg cashed in 27-of-48 shots for a 56.3-percent success rate.

Oberlin returns to action on Wednesday night when it plays host to local rival Case Western Reserve at 7:30 p.m.
