Jordan Beard surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in a 75-53 loss at Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday night.
Beard finished with a team-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooing. The local Oberlin product now has 1,008 points in his illustrious career in the crimson and gold. Sophomore
Ryan Magiera added 13 points, while senior
Omari Hall contributed nine.
“I am happy for Jordan and what he has been able to accomplish as he has never given up battling through a multitude of injuries during his career which shows the type of character he has a player and a person,” head coach
Isaiah Cavaco said. “I am sure this is a little bitter-sweet for him as I know he wishes this could have came in a win, but we appreciate all he has done for our program during his time here.”
The Yeomen were able to hang tough with the Bishops throughout the first half as they trailed by just three at the break, 31-28. However, in the second half Oberlin (4-14, 1-8 NCAC) committed 12 of its 18 turnovers and were out-rebounded 20-3 to allow OWU (11-6, 7-2 NCAC) to run away with the win.
Despite shooting 50-percent (22-of-44) on the night, the Yeomen were plagued by a large discrepancy at the free throw line as they made just four trips to the stripe – making three, while Ohio Wesleyan hoisted 22 charity tosses – chasing in 17 for a 77.3-percent success rate.
The Bishops also converted 25 points off of 18 OC turnovers and outscored the Yeomen 36-16 in the paint.
Oberlin will look to get back on track this Saturday when it travels to Earlham for a 3 p.m. clash.
