January 21 – Twenty-two Oberlin turnovers led to 32 Kenyon points and a 77-53 Yeomen defeat on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.

“We have to make better decisions with the ball and give a better effort defensively in order to give ourselves a chance to win, and tonight we didn't do that,” head coach Isaiah Cavaco said.

First-year Jared Ramirez led Oberlin with a career-high 11 points off the bench on a 5-of-7 shooting performance. Sophomore Ryan Magiera added 10 of his own – all of which came in the first half. Meanwhile, for the Lords the threesome of J.T Mcknight (24), Bryan Yelvington (21), and Dave Knapke (15) combined to score 60 points on the night.

The first half was a game of runs as the Lords jumped out to an early 13-2 lead, but Oberlin (4-12, 1-6 NCAC) battled back to get within four on four separate occasions - with the last being at 26-22 with 5:05 left to play in the frame. But from then on, Kenyon (11-5, 5-2 NCAC) scored 17 of the next 22 points to lead 43-27 at the break.

In the second half, the Lords continued its offensive outburst to put the game out of reach.

After shooting 61.1-percent (11-of-18) in the first half, Oberlin cooled off in the second stanza – making just 10-of-24 shots (41.7%) to finish at 50-percent (21-of-42) overall. Kenyon ended the night at 47.4-percent (27-of-57).

The Lords also benefited from a large discrepancy at the free throw line as they hoisted 22 charity tosses – making 16 (72.7 %), while the Yeomen made just 10 trips to the stripe – cashing in six (60%).

Oberlin will look to bounce on Saturday afternoon when Hiram comes to town for a 3 p.m. tip.
