January 19 – A hard-fought effort by the Oberlin College women's basketball team fell just short as they were on the wrong end of a 52-47 decision against Carnegie Mellon on Monday evening.

Emily Chu Finkel with nine rebounds. Thompson deposited a career-high four triples on five attempts.
“We played really hard and I was happy with our effort tonight,” head coach #Kerry Jenkins said. “We just need to work on playing a little bit smarter and take better care of the ball.”
Oberlin (3-12) matched a season-high with 28 turnovers, which turned into 23 Tartan points and proved to be the difference in the game.
The first half was played very closely with the Yeowomen taking their first lead of the contest, 16-14, at the 8:17 mark when Baker cashed in two of her eight first-half points. After falling behind shortly thereafter, Oberlin used an 8-0 spurt to claim its largest lead of the night, 24-20, with 4:26 left in the frame and went on to have 26-25 advantage at the break.
The Tartans came out in a full-court press to start the second half – taking Oberlin out of rhythm as they built a 38-30 edge with 13:36 left to play. After extending the lead to as many as 10, the Tartans fell victim to a 10-2 Oberlin run to get the Yeowomen within two, 47-45, with 2:28 left to play. A three by CMU and layup by
Kira Rivera setup a chance for Oberlin to tie the game, but it was not be as the Tartan defense forced three Clark triggers to miss their target in the closing the seconds.
For the game, the Yeowomen shot 36.4-percent (16-of-44), while connecting on season-best 50-percent (6-of-12) of its triple-tries. The Tartans finished the night with a 35.1-percent (20-of-57) success rate. OC did win the rebounding war by a 40-30 count.
Oberlin returns to NCAC play on Wednesday night when it travels to Hiram for a 7:30 p.m. showdown.
